Canine Handler – Explosive Detection
Description:
Canine Handlers at UPK-9 will perform duties related to access control, detection, and walking patrols throughout assigned facilities. The handler must exhibit self-discipline, maturity, patience, attention to detail, and maintain a professional appearance. They are entrusted with supporting the company’s mission, vision, and values through their conduct and performance.
Essential Functions:
+ Conduct patrols and respond to incidents across various properties, employing intervention techniques to prevent and deter security breaches.
+ Ensure the care of the assigned canine, including brushing, bathing, feeding, vet appointments, and kennel maintenance.
+ Maintain canine certification by completing annual certification and maintaining monthly sustainment training.
+ Generate incident reports and document interactions with clear and timely records.
+ Complete all assigned training and adhere to company policies.
+ Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Certification: the ability to get CA Guard Card, Open carry permit.
Recommended: Minimum of one year of documented canine handling experience.
Driving: Valid California driver’s license with at least three years of driving experience and no more than two Class 2 violations within the last 36 months.
Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, strong oral and written communication, organizational abilities, problem-solving, and adaptability to a changing environment.
U.S. Citizenship: Due to federal contract requirements, U.S. citizenship is requited for this position.
Transportation: Must have reliable transportation with climate control to transport the canine to/from assigned locations.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Command and care for an assigned explosive detection canine, ensuring both the canine’s welfare and performance.
+ Maintain detailed training records and ensure the living conditions for the canine meet set standards.
Working Conditions:
+ Environments vary from indoor training facilities to outdoor fieldwork, often requiring adaptability to heat, cold, humidity, and other challenging weather conditions.
+ Work schedules are determined by customer needs and may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
+ Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 lbs.
+ Regular standing for long periods, combined with walking, climbing, squatting, bending, and kneeling.
+ Frequent use of hands and arms for equipment operation and canine guidance.
Compensation:
Pay Rate: $30.00-$40.00 per hour dependent on experience.
Training pay provided.
