On Saturday, DHE detectives assigned to REACT were working highway enforcement in the County of Sacramento when they observed a Toyota Camry commit traffic violations. Detectives conducted a traffic stop, and El Dorado County Sheriff’s narcotics-trained K9 Toby (also assigned to REACT) alerted investigators to the odor of narcotics. A subsequent search of the car yielded multiple after-market hidden compartments beneath the floor of the vehicle. The hidden compartments concealed several vacuum-sealed packages of crystal methamphetamine, weighing a total of 121 pounds. 34-year-old Fernando Garcia of El Monte, CA was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges related to narcotics trafficking. The case was turned over to Sacramento Sheriff’s Detectives assigned to the Sacramento Area Intelligence Narcotics Team (SAINT) and the California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team (Cal-MMET). REACT is a collaborative initiative that includes the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol, the Placer County District Attorney’s Office, and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
