In a few weeks the 2024 Democratic National Convention will be held from August 19th through the 22nd. Ahead of the convention, the US Secret Service attempts to take its last setbacks and use them as stepping stones as they establish security measures in a collaboration between Federal, State and Local Law enforcement agencies. Armed security (in this case Federal, State, and Local law enforcement officers) are important for maintaining security and safety of participants and attendees. Through communication and established security practices law enforcement can provide a safe and secure environment.
Recently, the U.S. Secret Service Media Relations posted an article outlining the details of the US Security Service security plans for the Democratic National Convention. Chicago PD has been working with the Secret Service to establish perimeters around the event location, and will be conducting real-time security assessments during the event as emphasized by Chicago PD Superintendent Larry Snelling reassured via Live stream.
“We are constantly assessing and reassessing our resources based on intelligence and best practices. We’re doing this as we look ahead to the convention, and we will be doing this in real-time during the convention. Flexibility plays a vital role in our safety planning.”
For political events such as this perimeter security is of utmost importance as well as maintaining clear communication to address critical situations. In the wake of the attempted assassination of former president and now Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump, the Secret Service appears to be reassuring the public of its ability to safely secure VIPs and events.
